چکیده
Soil salinity is a significant threat to agriculture and livelihood, particularly in the Southern coastal areas of Bangladesh. extended from 0.833 1.056 million hectares (about), with an increase 26% between 1973 2009. Out about 1.689 land, are affected by soil various degrees covering 49 Upazila (sub-district) 19 districts. About 0.328, 0.274, 0.189, 0.161, 0.101 land very slight (S1), (S2), moderate (S3), strong (S4), (S5), respectively. Data recorded SRDI manifests new ingression Narail (18.71 ha), Jashore (14.99 Barishal (13.96 Gopalgonj (6.27 Jhalakati (4.69 Madaripur (0.72 ha) also encroached large area Bhola (53.84 Patuakhali (40.08 Khulna (27.92 Bagerhat (23.14 besides minor other The level almost double (2.8-18.5 4.0-42.8 dS/m) 2009 Sharankhola district, Dumuria district Shyamnagar Satkhira (SRDI, 2010). Different causes involved increasing water Bangladesh, like withdrawal fresh river upstream, irregular rainfall, faulty management sluice gates polders, regular tidal flooding unprotected area, capillary rise soluble salts, decreased surface availability, lowered ground table, reduced moisture content, introduction unplanned shrimp cultivation, lack drainage facilities. Some widespread techniques adopted saline Bangladesh cope polder (123), farm-pond (khamar-pokor), sarjan procedure, usage raised farm bund for year-round cropping, mulching (keeping covered winter summer months), leveling, pitcher (kolosh) irrigation grow watermelon, dibbling method, addition organic matter, chemical fertilizers cultivation tolerant crop varieties, rice. The rehabilitation of sandy desertified land in various dryland ecosystems by different management practices has a great potential to increase aggregate stability and improve soil quality. However, plants in general may have a different ability to sustain soil. The objective was to determine the effects of reclamation practices including Haloxylon ammodendron and Atriplex canescens plantation o...
متن کاملMapping spatial variability of soil salinity in a coastal area located in an arid environment using geostatistical and correlation methods based on the satellite data
Saline lakes can increase the soil and water salinity of the coastal areas. The main aim of this study is to distinguish the characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, analyze the statistical relationship between soil EC and characteristics of the spectral reflectance of saline soil, and to map soil salinity east of the Maharloo Lake. The correlation between field measurements ...
متن کاملSoil salinity and nutrients pattern along a distance gradient in coastal region
Soil salinity is considered as one of the major challenges in coastal agriculture in Bangladesh yet geographical extent of soil salinity and nutrients status have received little or no attention. This study investigated the patterns of soil salinity, total nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and sulfur between agricultural and fallow land along a 90 km distance from the coastline in Noakhali, Bang...
